South Station Tower Opens, Adding a 51-Story Landmark to Boston’s Core

The decades-in-the-making project caps a complex air-rights build over an active transit hub.

Overview

  • City officials, including Mayor Michelle Wu, marked the unveiling of the 690-foot tower designed by Pelli Clarke & Partners.
  • The $1.5 billion tower combines 689,000 square feet of offices with 166 Ritz-Carlton branded residences on the top 16 floors.
  • Announced office tenants include Jones Day (41,000 square feet), FM Global (50,000 square feet) and Citadel, with additional space still available.
  • Amenities include an 11th-floor Sky Park and a 36th-floor fitness and pool level, with condo prices starting around $1.3 million and penthouses up to about $15 million.
  • The development expanded the South Station bus terminal’s capacity by roughly 50% and followed 2024 construction pauses after a falling beam and a fire.
