Overview
- The one-vehicle collision occurred shortly after 8:55pm on August 30 on John Reid Road near the New Mill Inn in South Shields.
- Police said a white Skoda Octavia left the road, and a man in his 40s and a secondary-school-aged boy were pronounced dead at the scene.
- A man in his 30s sustained serious injuries, remains in a stable condition in hospital, and has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
- John Reid Road is closed in both directions and Brockley Avenue is cordoned as the Roads Policing Unit carries out enquiries.
