  • An arrest affidavit says Xavier Mayfield turned while holding an ARIS ABC rifle and a single round fired, striking a teammate in the neck.
  • A witness told police the players had been looking at game photos and saw Mayfield swinging the rifle after saying the safety was on.
  • Police say Mayfield tried to drive the victim to a hospital before calling 911, and he stayed at the scene until officers arrived.
  • The victim was hospitalized in stable condition, his name has not been released, a civil-rights group called the shooting accidental, and Dallas ISD has not commented.
