Overview
- Raven Aikins, 29, is charged with one felony count of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm after a 17-year-old was shot outside the store Tuesday night.
- Police say an argument at the 1224 S. Wabash Ave. location escalated when the teen threw a beverage container, and a shot to her right thigh left her in good condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
- A Cook County judge rejected prosecutors’ request to detain Aikins and required electronic monitoring and the surrender of any firearms while the case proceeds.
- Officers arrested Aikins about 15 minutes after the shooting in the 8000 block of South Saginaw Avenue following initial questioning as a person of interest.
- The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension canceled the teen’s missing-person alert, and Jewel-Osco has not said whether the guard was authorized to carry a gun as scrutiny follows a separate 2024 guard-related shooting at the same store.
