Overview
- MTC confirmed receipt this week of a formal letter of intent from Dohwa Engineering to undertake the pre-feasibility analysis under a government-to-government mechanism.
- The planned corridor would run along Peru’s coast with stations in Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Áncash, Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna.
- The design target envisions a Tumbes–Tacna journey of roughly 16 hours with passenger and freight operations.
- Official projections estimate about 113 million passengers and 61.5 million tonnes of cargo per year, while total costs will be defined by the upcoming study.
- Contacts with Dohwa were established at September’s infrastructure conference in Seoul, the firm is also studying the Chinchero–Cusco airport link, and authorities expect delivery to extend beyond the current administration.
