South Korean Chaebols Pledge Over 14 Billion Won for Flood Relief

Relief vehicles, mobile service centers, emergency shelters plus consumer aid packages have been rolled out to flood-hit communities.

Overview

  • Samsung, Hyundai Motor Group, SK and LG each donated between 2 and 3 billion won, while POSCO Group and HD Hyundai contributed 2 billion won apiece and Lotte Group added 1 billion won, bringing total corporate pledges above 14 billion won.
  • Hyundai Motor Group dispatched six laundry and disinfection vehicles and is offering up to 50 percent discounts and free cleaning for flood-damaged Hyundai and Kia vehicles.
  • Samsung committed 3 billion won, provided 1,000 emergency relief kits and 300 mobile shelters through the Korean Red Cross, and deployed service teams for free inspections of flooded appliances.
  • SK Group’s 2.3 billion won in aid has been paired with 175 relief tents, floor mats, mobile charging stations and portable power banks in Sancheong, Asan and Yesan counties.
  • LG Group’s 2 billion won donation is supported by emergency appliance repair centers in South Chungcheong, distributions of personal care products and free telecommunications services through LG Uplus.
