South Korea, Peru Sign Framework for 54 K2 Tanks and 141 K808 Armored Vehicles

The non-binding pact sets a path to binding contracts next year.

Overview

  • Hyundai Rotem signed the framework with Peru's Army Weapons and Ammunition Factory covering 54 K2 main battle tanks and 141 K808 wheeled armored vehicles.
  • The agreement was announced by Seoul and signed in Lima at a ceremony attended by Peru’s president and South Korea’s arms procurement chief.
  • Seoul said the framework includes plans for training and follow-up support alongside the equipment supply.
  • If concluded, the deal would mark the first export of K2 tanks to Latin America and South Korea’s largest ground-systems sale in the region.
  • Officials did not disclose the value, though Yonhap reported estimates above 2 trillion won, with final terms to be set in a follow-up contract.
