Agencies reached consensus to shift the paper out of restricted status, with administrative steps expected next week.

Overview

  • Online access to North Korean websites remains blocked for now, though the National Intelligence Service said it will proactively review lifting those bans.
  • The NIS stated it will support pending bipartisan legislation that would revise how North Korean information is handled.
  • The agency also outlined plans to abolish its 1970 guideline and transfer management of North Korea–related materials to the Unification Ministry.
  • President Lee Jae Myung’s criticism of the existing ban spurred the review of rules that currently confine access to designated facilities under national security guidelines.
