South Korea Hosts 75th-Anniversary Ceremony for U.N. Command

The command’s role endures due to the unfinished state of the Korean War.

Overview

  • Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back led the event honoring multinational forces that fought in 1950–53.
  • Ministerial and vice-ministerial delegations from 22 nations attended, including the defense chiefs of the Philippines and South Africa.
  • Descendants of veterans from Colombia, France and Germany took part in the commemoration.
  • Ahn pledged to uphold the spirit of allied solidarity and to work with partners to defend peace on the Korean Peninsula.
  • More than 1.9 million personnel from U.N. Command member states supported the war effort, and earlier summer observances included a gun salute in Pyeongtaek.
