South India Commands 58% of FY25 IMFL Sales With Karnataka Leading as Whisky Growth Cools to 1.4%

CIABC cites a weak first quarter driven by elections plus shifting excise rules as the drag on FY25 volumes.

Overview

  • CIABC data show the five southern states and Puducherry consumed 23.18 crore IMFL cases in FY25, equating to 58% of national volumes.
  • Karnataka topped all states with 6.88 crore cases (about 17% share), followed by Tamil Nadu at 6.47 crore cases, with Telangana and Andhra Pradesh near 9% each.
  • Pan-India whisky volumes reached 40.17 crore cases, up 1.4% from FY24, reflecting muted expansion at the national level.
  • Regional results were mixed, with Uttar Pradesh leading the north at 2.50 crore cases, Maharashtra at 2.71 crore in the west, and West Bengal at 1.49 crore in the east.
  • Standout moves included 10% growth in Puducherry and declines in Punjab (-20%) and J&K (-15%), as the industry navigated high taxes, Maharashtra’s MML change, BIO-brand treatment, and pending dues in Telangana while premium segments continued to grow.
