South Farmingdale Grandfather Killed Outside Elementary School as Suspect Held Without Bail

Police say the driver in a stolen Nissan fled on foot after hitting the victim’s parked car outside the elementary school.

Overview

  • Peter Morris, 80, was struck as he got into a parked 2012 Hyundai outside Woodward Parkway Elementary around 11:41 a.m. Friday and later died at a hospital.
  • Police identified the driver as Randy Colon, 24, of Hicksville, who was behind the wheel of a stolen 2013 Nissan before running off on foot.
  • Officers arrested Colon nearby, and he faces charges of second-degree manslaughter, criminal possession of stolen property, grand larceny and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
  • Colon is being held without bail as investigators continue to examine the circumstances of the crash near the school, where other vehicles were damaged.
