Alexandra Bialousow, 40, was arrested for allegedly starting the Covington Drive Fire, which has burned over 2,000 acres near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Officials say she failed to take proper precautions while using a backyard fire pit, allowing the fire to spread to nearby properties.
The wildfire, one of over 175 reported statewide last week, prompted evacuations and led to a state of emergency declared by Governor Henry McMaster.
The fire is currently 55% contained, with firefighting efforts supported by the South Carolina National Guard and improved weather conditions.
Bialousow faces charges of negligently allowing fire to spread and violating fire safety regulations, with a court appearance scheduled for April 15.
