South Carolina Measles Outbreak Accelerates, With 111 Cases and Hundreds Quarantined

Health officials warn low MMR coverage plus holiday gatherings are fueling sustained transmission.

Overview

  • State data show 27 new infections since Friday, bringing the Upstate total to 111, with at least 105 cases in people who were unvaccinated.
  • More than 250 contacts are under 21-day quarantine, with some unvaccinated students serving a second full quarantine period and 16 people currently in isolation.
  • Investigators link clusters to Inman Intermediate School and Way of Truth Church in Inman, and they report at least one exposure in a health-care setting.
