South Australia Launches $15 Million Dining Cashback and Second Travel Voucher Round to Support Algal-Bloomed Coast

Expanded beach inspections with Beachsafe updates will guide visitors as the bloom's economic fallout persists.

Overview

  • The joint state–federal dining program will issue 300,000 vouchers by monthly public ballots starting November 3, offering 50% back on meals up to $50 at eligible coastal venues.
  • Winners receive a unique code and claim the rebate by uploading a tax invoice from a participating business registered in designated coastal postcodes.
  • A second round of 30,000 Coast is Calling travel vouchers will open by ballot December 1–3 with a December 4 draw, covering stays and experiences including holiday rentals such as Airbnbs.
  • Travel vouchers include options up to $500 for longer stays, are valid for travel from December 5 to April 26, and require bookings by January 19.
  • Surf Life Saving teams will check beaches daily for foam and discolouration and the Beachsafe app and website will post algal bloom status for 23 locations as the March-detected bloom continues to strain seafood and tourism.
