The Springboks, South Africa's national rugby team, kicked off a five-city Rugby World Cup trophy tour in celebration of their record fourth win at the Rugby World Cup.
People from all over the country, including areas such as Soweto where the sport was once disliked, turned out to celebrate their victory, highlighting a unity across racial divides.
President Cyril Ramaphosa celebrated with the team, stating that the Springboks' win had 'lifted the spirits of the entire nation and filled us with pride,' amidst ongoing national challenges such as an electricity crisis, economic downturn, and high unemployment.
Springbok captain Siya Kolisi encouraged the continued unity seen following the World Cup win, while scrumhalf Cobus Reinach proclaimed, 'It is not our trophy, it is everyone in South Africa’s trophy.'
The nationwide tour brought together South Africans of all ages and social statuses in celebration and will continue through major cities such as Cape Town, Durban, and East London.
