Soundgarden Says Final Chris Cornell Album Is Over Halfway Done

A 2023 settlement over Cornell’s recordings cleared the way for the project.

Overview

  • Matt Cameron says there is no release date and the band will not issue singles until the entire record is complete.
  • Work is “over halfway done,” with Kim Thayil currently finishing his guitar parts to his exacting standards.
  • The album is built from eight songs the band began with Cornell between 2015 and 2017, and the process has been emotionally intense for the members.
  • Soundgarden plans to perform at the Nov. 8 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on Disney+, has not stated how Cornell’s vocals will be handled, and original bassist Hiro Yamamoto will participate.
  • Cameron recently exited Pearl Jam on amicable terms, citing three-hour shows and constant touring as he shifts focus to new projects including helping finish the Soundgarden record.
