Overview

  • The Soumoud convoy comprises at least 1,500 activists from Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania and Morocco traveling by bus and car through Zawiya, Tripoli and other Libyan cities.
  • Participants have been welcomed by Libyan authorities and escorted through Tripoli under a fraternal humanitarian initiative endorsed by Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah.
  • Convoy spokesperson Ghassen Henchiri said the group is negotiating with Egypt for passage permits at the Rafah Crossing but has received no official response.
  • Activists aim to pressure Israel to reopen border crossings and allow more humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, which the United Nations has called the “hungriest place on Earth.”
  • Israel’s tightened blockade since the October 7 attacks has contributed to critical shortages of food and basic supplies for Gaza’s more than two million residents.
