Sophon Orders Withdrawals Before November Mainnet Shutdown

The team is retiring its standalone chain to cut roughly $3 million in annual costs and will rebuild products on Coinbase’s Base network.

Overview

  • Users must withdraw all assets from Sophon by November 25, 2026 or risk losing access when the project begins shutting bridges, RPC nodes and websites ahead of a full mainnet retirement on November 30, 2026.
  • Sophon told holders to move SOPH, ETH, USDC, staking rewards and any farm balances through its official claims and farming portals and warned against using unverified migration sites.
  • The team paused new deposits in June after finding standalone operation cost about $3.4 million a year and said retiring the chain will save roughly $3 million annually.
  • SOPH will lose its on‑chain gas and staking roles when the mainnet goes offline, and Sophon plans to fund token buybacks and burns from revenue generated by new Base-based products while the 10 billion supply remains fixed; some exchanges have already migrated SOPH to ERC-20 at a 1:1 ratio.
  • The shutdown underscores the cost and adoption limits of small standalone Layer 2s and signals a wider shift toward building on larger L2s for distribution and lower infrastructure overhead, with Sophon’s first Base product named Pyre.
