Sophie Devine to Retire From ODIs After 2025 World Cup

  • New Zealand Cricket confirmed Devine will step down from one-day internationals at the conclusion of the ICC Women’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, which begins on September 30.
  • She will continue representing the White Ferns in T20 internationals under a case-by-case casual agreement for the 2025–26 season.
  • Across 152 ODIs, Devine has amassed 3,990 runs and taken 107 wickets since her debut in 2006, and she led New Zealand to a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2024 T20 World Cup title.
  • New Zealand Cricket announced its 17 centrally contracted women’s players for 2025–26 on June 18, with Devine excluded from full-time contracts.
  • A successor for the ODI captaincy will be appointed ahead of the New Zealand summer to lead the team beyond the World Cup.
