Sony Turns On Enhanced PSSR Image Quality by Default in PS5 Update

The change sharpens visuals for many upscaled games on PS5 Pro without requiring developer updates.

Overview

  • Sony rolled out system software version 26.06-14.00.00 on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, and the update automatically enables the improved upscaler on PS5 Pro consoles.
  • The new default applies the improved upscaling to games that used the earlier PSSR, which can produce a sharper and clearer image without individual game patches.
  • The Enhanced upscaler is exclusive to PS5 Pro hardware and users can turn it off at Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality if they prefer the prior look.
  • The update also adds a voice-chat speaker indicator that shows who is speaking and lets users change its on-screen position, plus a Community Activity widget with Trending Now and Top 10 views to surface popular multiplayer games.
  • In some regions Sony changed the Turn Off Bluetooth behavior so disabling Bluetooth prevents Rest Mode and HDMI Device Link for esports controller management, and the release includes routine performance and stability fixes.
