• Sony filed the lawsuit on July 25 in a California federal court, accusing Tencent subsidiary Polaris Quest of creating a 'slavish clone' of its Horizon franchise through Light of Motiram.
• The suit seeks statutory damages up to $150,000 per infringed work, a jury trial and an order to surrender and destroy all marketing materials bearing the contested trademarks.
• According to the filing, Tencent approached Sony in 2024 with a bid to license the Horizon intellectual property, a proposal that Sony rejected before Light of Motiram’s announcement.
• Sony claims that Light of Motiram’s promotional imagery and character design deliberately mimic Horizon’s aesthetic, causing consumer confusion and irreparable injury to its brand.
• Despite the legal action, Light of Motiram remains available for wishlist on Steam without a release date as development at Polaris Quest continues.
