Sony Sets PS5 Update for Sept. 17 With DualSense Multi-Device Pairing and Power Saver Mode

The release emphasizes button-based controller switching across four devices, with Power Saver working only in games that add support.

Overview

  • Sony says the firmware is leaving beta and will be available to all PS5 owners starting Wednesday, September 17.
  • DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers can remain paired with up to four devices, each mapped to a face button, and users switch by holding the PS button plus the assigned button.
  • Controllers must be connected wirelessly for multi-device switching to work, and slot indicators on the light bar confirm which device is selected.
  • Power Saver is enabled per title via Settings > System > Power Saving > Power Saver for Games, reducing performance to cut energy use while disabling VR mode and potentially limiting some features.
  • Initial Power Saver support is slated for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Demon’s Souls via updates, with Ghost of Yōtei supporting the feature at launch; the system update may auto-download or be installed manually through the Settings menu.
