Sony Raises Full-Year Outlook After Q2 Beat, Powered by Music and Image Sensors

Shares jumped more than 5% after the company pointed to Demon Slayer-fueled music gains plus a smaller U.S. tariff hit.

Overview

  • Sony reported operating income of JPY429 billion on revenue of JPY3.11 trillion for the quarter ended Sept. 30, with net income of JPY311.4 billion.
  • The company lifted its full-year guidance to JPY12 trillion in sales and JPY1.43 trillion in operating income for the year ending March 2026.
  • Music sales rose about 21% with operating income up roughly 28%, boosted by the global success of Demon Slayer, as Aniplex’s Visual Media & Platform revenue climbed to JPY105.9 billion and the film reached about $312 million worldwide by late September.
  • Imaging & Sensing Solutions posted roughly 15% sales growth and about a 50% profit jump on increased shipments and higher-priced larger smartphone sensors supplied to major customers including Apple.
  • Game & Network Services revenue increased modestly but operating income fell on one-time impairments tied to Bungie’s Destiny 2 and development-cost adjustments, though underlying profit would have risen excluding those items.
