Overview
- On July 24, Sony sent start-of-test invitations by email to selected PS5 owners in the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany and France.
- Beta participants can register DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers with up to four devices and switch between them using dedicated button presses without re-pairing.
- Power Saver mode appears in the beta settings but remains inactive until Sony discloses which games will support performance scaling and publishes energy-savings metrics.
- The optional Power Saver feature is part of Sony’s Road to Zero plan to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 through reduced console power consumption.
- Industry observers say the low-power mode could prepare developers for a potential portable PlayStation device, although Sony has not confirmed any handheld plans.
