Sonos Cancels Development of Streaming Video Device 'Pinewood'

The company announced the decision during an all-hands call, citing a shift in priorities following a challenging year in 2024.

Sonos has scrapped its plans for a streaming video device, codenamed Pinewood, which was reportedly far along in development and had undergone beta testing.
The Pinewood device was designed to compete with products like Apple TV 4K and was expected to cost between $200 and $400.
Features of the canceled device reportedly included universal search across streaming platforms, HDMI hub functionality, and integration with Sonos speakers and soundbars.
The decision comes as interim CEO Tom Conrad refocuses the company’s efforts on improving software performance and rebuilding its reputation after a problematic app rollout in 2024.
Sonos now faces the challenge of entering the second half of 2025 without a major new product release, following recent launches of the Arc Ultra soundbar and Sub 4.
