Sonora Launches 868 Million-Peso Ranching Program With Bull Deliveries and 300 Million-Peso Beef Hub

The package targets a shift to domestic processing to reduce reliance on the suspended U.S. live-cattle market.

Overview

  • Authorities began the rollout with 70 registered breeding bulls, the first installment of 1,000 to be co-financed 50% by federal and state funds and 50% by producers.
  • A 360 million-peso credit line with a maximum rate of 8.25% will open next week to help ranchers acquire animals.
  • Thirteen road-scraping machines worth 15 million pesos were handed over to upgrade more than 50 rural roads, with officials projecting transport and operating cost reductions of up to 50%.
  • The program details include 86.7 million pesos for a bovine feed plant, 221.4 million for livestock infrastructure, 65 million for auction facilities in Hermosillo and Moctezuma, 27.4 million for machinery and transport, and 22.8 million for corrals.
  • Separately, a 300 million-peso Centro Integral Ganadero will be built on 100 hectares owned by the state ranchers’ union, with groundbreaking planned this year and completion targeted by late 2026 to integrate slaughter, cutting, packing and cold storage.
