Soneium Plans Native SONEIUM Token to Tokenize Entertainment IP

A new token and a suite of onchain products aim to let creators and fans fund and share royalty income while key token rules and legal structuring remain undecided.

Overview

  • Soneium has announced plans for a native SONEIUM token to serve as an economic layer linking creators, rights holders, builders, fans and investors across its Ethereum Layer 2 network.
  • The company unveiled a Tokenized IP initiative centered on a Soneium Portal plus products called IP Vault and IP Bonds that are designed to represent rights, automate royalty payouts with smart contracts, and support primary sales and fan participation.
  • Initial projects will use existing entertainment IP, including a Moriusa character rollout with Super State Holdings and K-pop royalty work with DayOneDream’s WAVIST platform that targets concert and catalog revenues.
  • The network is backed by Sony and built on the OP Stack with infrastructure partners such as Startale and OP Enterprise, and it already supports a USDSC stablecoin for settlement and more than 250 applications on mainnet.
  • Regulatory and operational questions remain unanswered: Soneium has not issued the token or released tokenomics, and how IP Bonds and royalty flows will be structured could trigger securities rules and limit which investors and markets can participate.
