Overview

• Sunshine State Sonar located a submerged white 2013 Ford Fusion on Oct. 2 at 900 Peninsula Corporate Circle in Boca Raton and notified police.
• Boca Raton officers recovered the vehicle with skeletal remains inside, and the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner confirmed the remains as Steven MacKrell using dental records.
• Fort Lauderdale police say the circumstances of how the vehicle ended up in the water remain under investigation and are requesting information from the public at 954-828-6677 or 954-493-TIPS.
• MacKrell was last seen in the early hours of July 30, 2015, leaving Lucky’s Tavern in Fort Lauderdale and later on surveillance at a Pompano Beach Valero where an apparent dispute was recorded.
• Relatives described the discovery as painful but bringing some closure after police previously searched nearly 200 bodies of water without finding him.
