Overview
- Users on MacRumors forums and Reddit reported brief crackles, pops, clicks or raspy sounds from the earpiece or speakers on iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max units.
- Reports that began surfacing on Sept. 29–30 describe the noises occurring in varied situations such as app switching, notifications, phone calls and when toggling Airplane Mode or changing brightness.
- Apple released iOS 27.0.1 to fix an unrelated Face ID restart bug but the update’s release notes do not list a speaker fix and early feedback says the update did not stop the audio issue.
- Some owners who exchanged phones say replacements showed the same behavior while a few users reported temporary improvement after changing Phone settings from Voice Isolation to Standard.
- The problem appears limited in scale but is corroborated across multiple forums, Apple has not publicly commented, and affected buyers face return and warranty choices as the cause remains unknown.
