Overview

  • The cabinet confirmed that non-member dialogue partners will be barred from the Forum leaders’ meeting slated for September 8–12 in Honiara.
  • Only representatives from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and civil society groups are permitted to attend the summit.
  • Manele said the deferral reflects the need to finalize protocols for engaging external dialogue partners.
  • Opposition leader Peter Kenilorea Jr described the decision as a missed opportunity for Pacific nations to meet global donors and warned it could fracture the forum’s cohesion.
  • Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry insisted its inclusion aligns with the Forum’s spirit of diversity and could bolster regional stability and development.
