Solange Named USC Thornton's First All-School Scholar in Residence

The three-year appointment centers on building USC’s first formal curriculum in music curation.

Overview

  • USC Thornton confirmed a custom three-year residency starting this week in which Solange will collaborate with dean Jason King to develop new curricular and programmatic offerings in music curation.
  • She is slated to teach a course tentatively titled “Records of Discovery: Methodologies for Music and Cultural Curatorial Practices,” scheduled to launch in fall 2027.
  • The residency includes student workshops and conversations with her Saint Heron team, including a session on “The Making of Eldorado Ballroom.”
  • She will join the Dean’s Creative Vanguard Program as its second member, following inaugural member Raphael Saadiq.
  • The appointment was announced during a sold-out USC talk and includes participation in a forthcoming symposium on women in classical work and the legacy of composer Julia Perry.
