Solana Company Backs Constitution and Opposes Early Inflation and Fee Changes
The Nasdaq-listed validator operator warns reopening issuance and fee rules now would hurt predictable staking revenue and could deter institutional participants.
Overview
- Solana Company disclosed its voting positions on Aug. 21 and said it will vote for SGP-0001, the proposed Solana Constitution, and against SGP-0002 and SGP-0003 because of timing concerns.
- On-chain voting was expected to open on Aug. 22 and any SGP must win at least 66.67% of decisive stake and then be turned into code and deployed by developers behind a feature gate.
- SGP-0002, tied to technical plan SIMD-0550, would accelerate disinflation and is estimated to reduce projected emissions by about 18.9 million SOL over six years under current projections.
- SGP-0003 would shift Solana from a flat fee to resource-based fees and has prompted estimates that daily token burns could rise dramatically, though authors have since published wider ranges and clarifications.
- The company said its stance aims to preserve predictable, multi-year staking yields used in financial forecasts and noted that its own Q2 results showed heavy reliance on staking revenue, a dynamic that could affect institutions and funds that stake SOL.
