Overview

  • Conceived by Jean-Victor Meyers and directed by Sofia Coppola, the gala transformed the museum’s nave into a lush summer garden with Thierry Boutemy’s florals, wrought iron seating and candlelit tables.
  • Around 300 luminaries from fashion, film and art attended the black-tie affair, including Kirsten Dunst, Penélope Cruz and Anna Wintour.
  • Chef Bertrand Grébaut of Septime crafted the dinner menu and legendary bartender Colin Field oversaw cocktails that complemented performances by soprano Pretty Yende and Phoenix.
  • Guests applied stickers to their smartphone lenses to discourage photography and preserve an intimate, pre-Instagram ambiance.
  • Proceeds of about $2 million will fund the museum’s upcoming “1925–2025: One Hundred Years of Art Deco” exhibition, and organizers plan to hold Bal d’Été every two years.
