Overview

• The Social Security Administration says monthly Social Security and SSI benefits will be paid on time, including Oct. 8, Oct. 15, Oct. 22 for Social Security and Oct. 31 for SSI.
• Field offices remain open but expect longer waits and fewer in-person offerings due to staffing reductions.
• Core services continue, including applications, appeals, address or direct deposit changes, Social Security card replacements, death reports, representative payee updates, and SSI living arrangement or income changes.
• Several services are paused or limited, including in-person Medicare card replacement, proof-of-income letters, earnings record corrections, FOIA processing, overpayments, and payee accounting.
• Beneficiaries are urged to use my Social Security online and can find service details at ssa.gov/agency/shutdown, with direct deposit and prepaid cards supporting uninterrupted payments.
