Social Security Beneficiaries to Receive Two Payments in December

Millions of Social Security beneficiaries will receive two Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks in December, one on December 1 and another on December 29.
The second December check will include the cost of living adjustment (COLA) for 2024, which is 3.2% higher than in 2023.
Regular retirement checks are different from SSI checks and are distributed on a different schedule.
The maximum rate for individual SSI beneficiaries is $914 per month, with the new maximum set at $943 for a single beneficiary after the COLA.
The Social Security Administration has been criticized for trying to recoup billions in overpayments from beneficiaries.
