Social Movements Hold Nationwide ‘Ollas Populares’ to Press for Food Aid and Social Wage

The action spotlights claims of a bogus audit, pressing for the return of food aid.

Overview

  • Organizers staged a national day of action on September 30 with hundreds of community cookouts across Buenos Aires City, the conurbano, and provinces including Santa Fe, Córdoba, Jujuy, Misiones, La Pampa, Catamarca, Chubut, Río Negro, Salta and San Luis.
  • They called a 8:30 a.m. press conference at the Obelisk in Buenos Aires to outline the protest and its objectives.
  • The central demands are the reopening and increase of the Complementary Social Salary and the immediate restitution of food supplies to community kitchens and snack rooms.
  • Groups denounced what they describe as a “fake” audit by the Ministry of Human Capital and warned that the retreat of state support is allowing narcotrafficking to gain ground in neighborhoods.
  • About twenty organizations are participating, led by the CCC and allied movements, with local plans such as a main gathering in Quilmes at the Plaza de la Estación at noon alongside multiple neighborhood sites.
