São Paulo Suspends Passenger-Car Rodízio for Year-End Period, Set to Return Jan. 12

The pause follows an official notice to match lighter travel during the year-end break.

Overview

  • The municipal rotation for passenger vehicles was halted on Dec. 22, 2025, with City Hall indicating a restart on Jan. 12, 2026.
  • During the suspension, private cars may circulate freely during the usual peak windows regardless of license-plate endings.
  • The truck rodízio and the ZMRC and ZMRF restrictions remain in force, according to the traffic authority CET.
  • The decision was published in the Diário Oficial da Cidade, and while some reporting cited Jan. 9, official guidance states Jan. 12 for the return.
  • When reinstated, the Operação Horário de Pico restricts circulation in the Centro Expandido/Anel Viário from 7:00–10:00 and 17:00–20:00, with violations treated as a medium infraction carrying a R$130.16 fine and four CNH points.
