Overview

• The Military Police’s 3rd Shock Battalion located Cleberson Paulo dos Santos in Vila Curuçá on Sept. 23, and he died after exchanging gunfire with officers.
• Police recovered a 9 mm pistol with the serial number removed, and he was taken to Hospital Santa Marcelina in Itaim Paulista, where he did not survive.
• Civil Police records from 2019 identified him as part of the PCC cell known as the Bonde dos 14 and tied him to plans targeting public officials, including Fontes.
• He had been a fugitive since 2022 after failing to return from a temporary prison leave from the Valparaíso facility, with more than ten years of a homicide sentence still to serve.
• The DHPP is following the case, and the Civil Police will examine the seized phone for any role in Fontes’s killing, with three suspects already arrested in that investigation.
