São Paulo Opens Six Line 6‑Laranja Stations While Construction Remains Incomplete

The governor advanced a partial launch after a R$3.6 billion contract addendum to start revenue sooner and reduce carrying costs.

Overview

  • The line opened to the public on Friday, July 3, with six stations operating on a reduced weekday schedule and only one access per station during the inaugural phase.
  • Acciona, the concessionaire, reported none of the six stations were fully finished and published completion rates ranging from 98% at Água Branca to 85% at Sesc‑Pompéia.
  • Journalists documented visible unfinished work such as internal hoardings, blocked escalators, incomplete finishes and only partial external terminals in several stations.
  • The planned paid transfer to CPTM Line 7 at Água Branca is not yet operational so passengers must exit to street level to change systems and the state expects the inaugural segment to be free at least until October.
  • The state accelerated the schedule with a R$3.6 billion addendum to Acciona to speed delivery, but officials say full completion of the 15‑station Line 6 is now expected in 2027 after nearly 18 years since the project began.
