Overview
- Industrial output in São Paulo rose 0.8% in August after a 0.9% gain in July, totaling a two-month increase of 1.7%.
- Brazil’s overall industrial production grew 0.8% in August following a 0.1% decline in July, matching São Paulo’s August rate.
- Nine of the 15 regions surveyed advanced on the month, led by Pará (5.4%), Bahia (4.9%) and Paraná (4.2%), while Amazonas (-7.4%), Pernambuco (-3.5%), Rio de Janeiro (-1.9%), Santa Catarina (-1.8%), Ceará (-1.5%) and Minas Gerais (-0.2%) fell.
- Compared with a year earlier, São Paulo’s output dropped 2.4% versus a 0.7% national decline, and in 2025 to date the state is down 1.9% versus a 0.9% national gain; on a 12-month basis São Paulo is -0.8% and Brazil is +1.6%.
- São Paulo’s production stands 0.5% above its pre-pandemic level from February 2020 but remains 21.2% below the March 2011 peak.
