São Paulo Bars Kanye West From Interlagos as Mayor Rules Out Performances in Public Venues

The administration cites a policy against hosting artists linked to pro-Nazi or racist speech.

Overview

  • City officials formally blocked the November 29 concert at the Autódromo de Interlagos, saying municipal facilities will not host events that endorse Nazism or racism.
  • Mayor Ricardo Nunes declared that no one who makes apologia to Nazism will perform “even a word” in venues run by the municipality.
  • The producer, Ye in Brazil, says the venue grant was revoked unilaterally via an October 8 email and insists the show remains confirmed with tickets still on sale.
  • Organizers report more than 30,000 tickets sold and say a US$5 million artist fee has already been paid; a September 16 Diário Oficial entry recorded the cession for R$562,940 with provisions allowing revocation in the public interest.
  • The municipality says it was not told which artist was booked when the space was requested, and it cites West’s antisemitic and pro‑Nazi statements and a 2025 track, “Heil Hitler,” that platforms removed.
