Overview
- Mexico’s National Music Development System inaugurated a fixed base at Casa Ruiz Cortines in the Los Pinos cultural complex, ending decades of rotating through temporary sites.
- The facility includes eight rehearsal rooms, a dedicated percussion room, 14 study cubicles, and nine classrooms with acoustic panels and double‑glazed windows to manage sound.
- The refit, carried out under the Plan Integral de Renovación de Escuelas de Arte y Cultura, also added new electrical, lighting, and ventilation systems plus storage and new furniture.
- The Orquesta Escuela Carlos Chávez, the Ensamble Escénico Vocal, and the Coro Sinfónico Comunitario will perform Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé for free on May 23 at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música and May 24 at the Biblioteca de México under Enrique A. Diemecke.
- The program doubles as training for young players and singers, who will tackle a wordless chorus technique that blends the voice into the orchestra and demands focused practice.
