Overview

  • The Supreme Court ordered former PSOE organisation secretary Santos Cerdán held without bail on charges of criminal organisation, bribery and money laundering.
  • Investigators have also opened inquiries into ex-transport minister José Luis Ábalos and advisor Koldo García over alleged pandemic-era contract kickbacks.
  • Guardia Civil agents conducted a search at PSOE’s Ferraz headquarters to duplicate emails from Cerdán’s account in pursuit of evidence.
  • In Congress Sánchez denied any irregular party financing and defended his government before demands from the People’s Party and Vox for his resignation and early elections.
  • He introduced a 15-point anti-corruption package developed with the OECD that includes an independent integrity agency and AI-based fraud detection, securing conditional backing from coalition partners Sumar and regional nationalists.
