SNCF Clarifies Two TGV Incidents, Citing Fallen Stones and a Planned Safety Reversal

Operations have returned to normal after hours‑long delays, with the MarseilleParis service ultimately arriving about 30 minutes late.

Overview

  • On Sept. 23, a TGV struck stones that had fallen from a construction site several kilometres south of Paris near the Marcoussis–Massy sector, damaging the train and forcing it to return to Gare Montparnasse.
  • Traffic on the Atlantique high‑speed line was restricted to a single track at low speed for part of the afternoon before full circulation resumed around 19:45 with residual evening delays that reached up to 3 hours 50 minutes on a Paris–Bordeaux service.
  • SNCF later corrected initial messaging that mentioned a concrete block, stating the obstruction was a few stones that fell onto the track.
  • In a separate event early the same day, the MarseilleParis TGV n°6102 did not stop at Aix‑en‑Provence due to a routing issue and then reversed to serve the station under instructions from the signal box.
  • SNCF Réseau described the Aix maneuver as rare but planned and emphasized that safety procedures were followed and passengers were not put at risk.
