Snapseed Adds Geotag Toggle and Originals Saving to Android Camera

The update combines optional location tagging with automatic saving of unedited originals to simplify non-destructive edits.

Overview

  • Snapseed began rolling out its 4.1.1.x update on July 20–21 that introduces a Location Metadata toggle and a Capture original for re-editing option.
  • The Location Metadata toggle is off by default and enabling it opens Android’s system prompt so users must grant location permission before images are geotagged.
  • Capture original for re-editing is enabled by default and uses the system file picker so users can choose or create the folder where unedited photos are saved.
  • The changes are part of a staged 4.1.1.x rollout reported in builds such as 4.1.1.948762742, so availability may vary by device and Play Store build.
  • These camera additions follow May’s Snapseed 4.0 work that added grid lines, level tools, expanded RAW editing and undo/redo, and they aim to balance workflow convenience with explicit user control over privacy and storage.
