Snapchat Caps Free Memories Storage at 5GB, Adds Paid Tiers Up to 5TB

Snap says the change helps fund storage infrastructure.

Overview

  • Announced Monday, Snapchat will limit free Memories to 5GB, with additional space available only through new Memories Storage Plans.
  • The entry plan offers 100GB for $1.99 per month, Snapchat+ includes 250GB as part of its $3.99 subscription, and the Platinum tier provides 5TB for $15.99 per month.
  • Users currently over 5GB get a 12‑month grace period to subscribe or export content, and if no plan is chosen after that, the oldest Snaps are kept while recent ones over the limit are deleted.
  • Snap says the vast majority of accounts are under 5GB, so the policy mainly affects heavy savers with thousands of Snaps.
  • Memories has grown to more than 1 trillion saved Snaps, and the paid storage model helps diversify revenue beyond advertising; Snap shares rose as much as 5% Monday following the news.
