Overview
- Snap announced Now Playing on Snap Map on Monday, July 27, 2026, introducing a real-time listening feed that shows what friends are playing when they link a Spotify account.
- After linking Spotify, users can see friends’ current tracks on the map, tap a song to open it in Spotify, save it to Liked Songs, or explore Spotlight videos that use the same sound.
- Sharing is strictly opt-in and configurable with four visibility settings — Friends, Friends on the Map, Select Friends, or No One — and Snap will pause sharing after 24 hours of app inactivity with options to manually pause sharing.
- Now Playing is rolling out in regions where both Snapchat and Spotify operate, with Canada noted as coming soon, and currently works only with Spotify though Snap signals potential expansion to other streaming partners.
- The update adds music discovery to Snap Map’s 450 million monthly users and ties into Snapchat’s Spotlight and Sound Pages, a move that could boost in-app engagement and follows broader social platforms’ push into music sharing.
