Smyth, McAtamney and McNamee Rejoin Saints, Giants and Packers on IPP Practice Squads

They return under the NFL’s International Player Pathway exemption that provides an extra practice-squad slot.

Overview

  • After clearing waivers on Wednesday, all three Irish kickers re-signed to the practice squads of New Orleans, New York and Green Bay.
  • Each player holds an International Player Pathway designation as a 17th practice-squad member, eligible for up to three game-day elevations and unable to sign elsewhere while designated; practice-squad pay starts at $12,500 per week.
  • Charlie Smyth narrowly missed out on the Saints’ kicking job to Blake Grupe despite both being perfect in preseason, including Smyth’s 52-yard make.
  • The Giants retained Jude McAtamney as Graham Gano’s understudy following his NFL debut in November 2024 and a solid preseason workload.
  • Mark McNamee continues with the Packers after a June release from the CFL’s BC Lions and an August signing prompted by Alex Hale’s injury, posting mixed preseason results.
