SMRT and LTA Identify Power SCADA Fault in July Bukit Panjang LRT Outages

A design review with Schneider Electric is under way as part of the Land Transport Authority’s Power Renewal Project to prevent future networkwide traction power trips.

Overview

  • On-site investigations confirmed that faults in the newly installed Power SCADA system triggered the Emergency Trip System and caused full-network outages on July 3 and 19.
  • The probe is being conducted jointly by SMRT, the LTA power renewal team, and Schneider Electric to carry out a full design review and strengthen system stability.
  • SMRT bypassed the Emergency Trip System to safely restore traction power across all 13 stations after each disruption.
  • The Power SCADA system is designed to remotely monitor and control power distribution along the 8 km Bukit Panjang LRT line connecting Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang estates to Singapore’s MRT network.
  • The LTA has set an end-2026 deadline for completing the Bukit Panjang LRT Power Renewal Project under tighter regulatory oversight following past service and maintenance lapses.
