Overview

• Fire crews responded around 1:30 a.m. Thursday to a three-alarm blaze at 319 Fourth Street that engulfed a three-story frame building and an attached two-story structure, reducing both to rubble.
• At least six firefighters suffered smoke inhalation or heat exhaustion and were treated at Jersey City Medical Center following the overnight operation.
• As of early Thursday morning, smoldering hot spots persisted at the site and surrounding streets remained closed to traffic.
